Successful DORA and Sustainability Workshop by ifs Malta in collaboration with Ganado Advocates

On Friday, 28th June, 2024, a workshop focusing on DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act) and Sustainability organised by ifs Malta in collaboration with Ganado Advocates, brought together financial institutions for a morning of knowledge sharing. The insightful event took place at the MFSA Conference Hall.

The workshop provided a timely opportunity for attendees to gain crucial knowledge on these two critical topics impacting the financial sector. Following opening remarks from ifs Malta, Beppe Sammut, Senior Associate at Ganado Advocates, provided a clear overview of DORA: Key Considerations, setting the stage for a deeper dive.

The heart of the first session focused on DORA: Navigating new obligations in the financial sector: Insights, Challenges and Knowledge Sharing. Moderated by Beppe Sammut, Senior Associate at Ganado Advocates, a distinguished panel offered valuable insights. Andrew Schembri (Partner Digital Services, PWC), Alan Azzopardi (Manager Technology Risk Consultancy, EY), Christian Bonnici West (Resident Academic at the University of Malta and Independent Information Security Practitioner), and Keith Cauchi (Chief Information Security Officer, MeDirect) discussed the practical implications of DORA, the challenges institutions face in achieving compliance, and shared best practices for navigating the new regulatory landscape.

The second session shifted gears to focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations. André Zerafa, Managing Partner at Ganado Advocates, delivered a practical overview of ESG, laying the groundwork for a thought-provoking panel discussion. Moderated by Luke Hili, Associate at Ganado Advocates, the panel featured experts from across the sustainability spectrum. Gabriel Aquilina (Senior Analyst, Capital Markets Supervision, MFSA), Charles Xuereb (CEO, Trident plc), Jeanelle Arpa (Senior Consultant, Sustainability, EY), and Reana Micallef (Lead Risk Manager, BOV Asset Management) discussed the application of ESG regulations in sustainable finance practices, offering valuable insights for navigating the evolving sustainability landscape.

The workshop concluded with closing remarks from ifs Malta, leaving attendees well-equipped to tackle the challenges and opportunities presented by DORA and the growing importance of ESG in the financial sector.
