ifs Malta Hosts MiCreS Meeting in Valletta

Published on Friday, 17th April 2026 • News

The meeting formed part of the European Micro-credentials & Professional Qualifications Certification System (MiCreS) project, an Erasmus+ co-funded initiative focused on advancing sustainability and ESG competencies within the financial services sector.

Following a welcome address by Peter Calleya, President of ifs Malta, and William Portelli, President of MUBE, the meeting, coordinated by Max Stehl from Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, officially got underway. Discussions covered project progress and the results of pilot exercises conducted in Malta and Ireland, centred around the purposefully developed ESG micro-credential curriculum. Wendy Zammit, Mark Agius, and Joseph Agius are leading ifs Malta’s participation in this project, while IOB Ireland was represented by Jonathan McConnell and Derek Lawson.

The sessions fostered strong collaboration, meaningful dialogue, and a constructive exchange of ideas, clearly reflecting the strength and cohesion of the project consortium.

Dr David Xuereb from the ESG Alliance, a platform that enables Maltese businesses to collaborate, drive national ESG goals, and act as catalysts by leading through example, delivered a highly insightful and informative presentation as a guest speaker.

With valuable contributions from participating institutions and experts, preparations are well underway for the final conference and project closure, which will take place in Brussels, Belgium, in October 2026.

Overall, the meeting was a great success, characterised by productive discussions, excellent interaction, and a continued commitment from all partners towards achieving the project’s ambitious goals.
