Sustainable Lending in Malta

Published on Friday, 13th June 2025 • News

Today, ifs Malta, in collaboration with KPMG, successfully hosted a groundbreaking workshop on sustainable lending at the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) premises. The event brought together influential voices from Malta’s regulatory, banking, legal, and academic communities for a dynamic discussion on the evolving landscape of ESG and sustainable finance.

With a strong turnout from professionals in credit, compliance, ESG policy, and risk management, the workshop featured contributions from top representatives of the MFSA, Malta Bankers’ Association (MBA), APS Bank, Malta Development Bank, The Malta Chamber, QP, University of Malta and others. Sessions covered both regulatory perspectives and market practices, offering attendees concrete insights into how sustainable lending can be implemented effectively.

Interactive roundtables and expert panels led by KPMG further enriched the dialogue, encouraging attendees to share real-world challenges and explore innovative solutions. The event underscored the urgency and opportunity of aligning financial services with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities.

“This workshop marked a vital milestone in our shared commitment to fostering a more sustainable financial sector in Malta,” said Connie Briffa Raggio, Head of Institute at ifs Malta. “We are proud to have brought together such a diverse and influential group to drive forward the ESG agenda.”

The event concluded with a strong call to action: continued collaboration across sectors will be essential to achieving Malta’s sustainable finance goals.
