Given what happened to the two largest banks of America in the previous weeks, IFS Malta is launching a workshop on Recovery and Resolution, The Resolution Framework applies to all financial institutions operating in Malta, the difference would depend on the preferred resolution strategy of the financial institution and the different reporting lines falling under the SRB or MFSA remit, such differences will be explained. It also applies to certain investment firms. audience is not strictly limited to bankers as the course would cover a broad range of Resolution topics. The area of Resolution is of interest also to those providing services related to the Resolution Framework like consultancy services or advice to licence holders as it is important that there is a better understanding of this area among practitioners in the financial services industry.
The content of these sessions will include the theoretical and legal aspects of Resolution it will also be based on a more practical viewpoint to provide more clarity. Therefore, one of the outcomes is to inform the audience how these theories are put in practice in a day-to day application of the concepts of Resolution. The aim is also to provide a more detailed explanation of the expectations on the licence holders falling within the scope of this Framework, the differences for different type of licence holders and the roles and duties of the Regulator. The seminar will also delve in the reporting framework, resolution financing arrangements and the relationship and regulatory arrangements between the Single Resolution Board and the MFSA. Therefore, one can summarise that the learning outcomes are to better understand the Resolution Framework which can be quite abstract in some areas, be able to understand its practical applications and the aims behind it, understand the roles of the local and European regulators and the roles and expectations of the licence holders falling within its scope.
