Why Attend:

On 24 May 2023, the European Commission adopted a package known as the Retail Investment Package with a view to fostering retail investor information transparency and ensuring that investment decisions are best for investors.

The intention is  to empower retail investors to increase their ability to  make investment decisions that are aligned with their needs and preferences, ensuring that they are treated fairly and are duly protected.  This will enhance trust and confidence , thereby increasing retail investor participation.

The package also deals with clarity in communication and the prevention of misleading information  with the main intention being that of mitigating potential conflicts of interest for advisers and increase retail investments value for money.

This workshop will help investment professionals guide potential investors make appropriate investment decisions that are aligned with their needs and preferences.

Speakers

Prof Pierpaolo Marano

Pierpaolo Marano is an associate professor at the Department of Insurance and Risk Management – University of Malta. He also lectures at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and the University of Latvia. He is a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Reading and an Honorary Fellow at the University of Hong Kong – Asian Institute of International Financial Law. Professor Marano holds a PhD in banking law and regulation from the University of Siena.

A widely sought speaker on insurance law and one of the Italian Code of Private Insurance drafters, he serves as an academic member of the Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholders Group at the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA). Moreover, Prof. Marano chairs the Scientific Committee of the AIDA (International Association of Insurance Law) Europe, the Working Party on the Distribution of Insurance Products at AIDA World. He is the Director of the AIDA Europe Research Series on Insurance Law and Regulation, published by Springer and indexed and abstracted in SCOPUS. He published more than 140 academic papers in English, Italian and Spanish.

He was a member of several boards of insurance companies’ directors and currently sits on the boards of Italian and Maltese insurers.

Kyle Debattista

Kyle is a Lead Associate at Camilleri Preziosi forming part of the financial services team. He is involved in advising on a wide array of finance transactions; dealing with regulatory matters for, amongst others, banks and investment firms. He is also actively involved in advising banks with respect to their regulatory capital requirements and in assisting credit institutions in structuring and raising capital in the local capital markets.
